Mail and digital together

Mail and digital each cover the other's weak spot. Mail reaches every address you choose and sits on the counter for days. Digital is cheap to repeat and easy to change. Used together, people see your name in more than one place.

Ways to combine them

  • Mail, then ads. Run online ads to the same ZIP Codes or the same customer list in the weeks around a mailing.
  • Mail to a page. A QR code or short web address that leads to a page built for that mailing, with the same offer and headline.
  • Mail, then email. For customers whose email you have, follow the postcard with an email that carries the same offer.
  • Informed Delivery. USPS's Informed Delivery service shows subscribers images of their incoming mail. Commercial mailers can add a clickable image and link to their campaign.
  • Mail to reviews. A thank-you card after a job, asking for an online review.

Keep it consistent

Use the same offer, headline and look everywhere. If the postcard says $79 and the landing page says "call for pricing", people stop trusting both.

Track it all the same way

Give each channel its own code or link so you can see which one moved people, and which combination worked best.

Questions

Does direct mail work better with digital marketing?

They cover different ground. Mail reaches every address you pick, and digital repeats the message cheaply. Many businesses use both on the same audience.

What is Informed Delivery?

A USPS service that emails subscribers a preview of their incoming mail. Commercial mailers can add campaign images and links.

How do I connect a postcard to a website?

Print a QR code or short web address that goes to a page made for that mailing.
